Should I wait to purchase a SED-TV?
There have been rumblings that the first commercial models will be available in the spring of 2006. Unfortunately, there could be delays in production. The SED’s have been rumored to start in the 55 inch model. The costs of the screens should be very expensive. In my view, it would cost 2 – 3 times the cost of the plasma TVs; just because it’s new technology. If you have a lot of money to burn, and want the new SED-TV, then you probably can still afford to buy plasma now, and buy a SED later when it actually is sold commercially.
This should be the first generation SED-TV. With any first generations of anything, there should be kinks to be worked out. I definitely think that you have to wait a few years before they stabilize the commercialization of the SED-TV. I personally would want to take advantage of the high definition standard, and would definitely venture into either plasma TV, LCD TV or even DLP.
Another factor is that the first SED’s are going to be produced at a size of 55 inch or higher. That means that you may be looking at alternative technologies for anything lower than the size. From all this hype and speculation, the next few years will be very exciting in the flat screen technology area.
